Legenden der Formel 1 ist ein aufregender Text/Bildband: Aufregend, weil die beiden Fotografen Bernard Cahier und sein Sohn Paul-Henri die Formel 1 seit ihren Anfängen begleiten. Ihr Freund Xavier Chimits, der frühere Chefredakteur des französischen „Automobile Magazine“, ist ebenfalls seit mehr als 20 Jahren dabei. Zusammen erstellten sie den vorliegenden Band mit seinen außergewöhnlichen Fotografien und den Beschreibungen der Karrieren und Schicksale ausgewählter Rennfahrer-persönlichkeiten.

Die Formel 1 entstand am 13. Mai 1950 auf der Rennstrecke von Silverstone. Seit damals sind mehr als 600 Männer und zwei Frauen bei den Grand Prix-Rennen gestartet. Sie alle waren vor den Objektiven von Vater und Sohn Cahier. Die geografischen und sozialen Unterschiede waren enorm. Gewiss hatten nicht alle denselben Willen zum Kampf und waren auch nicht gleich talentiert. Auch wurden nicht alle Weltmeister. Manche hinterließen sogar nur einige statistische Daten. Einige Fahrer jedoch brannten ihre Spur ins Gedächtnis der Zuschauer und wurden zu Legenden.
Dieses Buch enthält einen Umriss der Schicksale von über 70 herausragenden Rennfahrern. Es kann nicht die ganze Geschichte der Formel 1 erzählen, aber es gibt einen Einblick in das Leben derer, die sie wesentlich geprägt haben.

OttoVu is a two volume book on the history and development of what probably is one of the most mysterious cars from the early fifties; the Fiat 106 Sport, better know as the OttoVu. Developed by Dante Giacorsa for a different application, the odd looking two-literV-8 engine was later modified into a powerful unit and ideas were constructed on teh 8V chassi; from teh elegant Supersonic cars, all had their place in history and are reviewed in the book Racing history and chassis by chassis register makes teh work complete.

The Fiat 8V engine also powered the beautiful Siata 208 series that were produced nearby the Lingotto works, at the via Leonardo da Vinci under supervision of Giorgio Ambrosini. SIATA production was almost entirely for the American market. There is a general intro to the early work of SIATA with separate chapters to the Daina series and 750 Spider. Obviously, the 208-series are the main interst here and form, together with a register on the Spider and Coupe, the major part of the second volume.

The vision of one man, Captain Sherman Red Crise formed the basis for what was to become the Bahamas Speed Weeks, a series of motor races held on the island of New Providence in the Bahamas. They started in the mid 1950s and continued for 13 years, before ending due to a mix of political decisions, ill fortune and a shift in the direction motor racing had taken over that period of time. These years were described by many commentators as the Golden Age of motor racing, where internationally acclaimed drivers attended the Speed Weeks to mix with the many amateur racers from America who came to enjoy the senario of sun, parties and racing. For many drivers the social scene was as important as the racing, and in latter years prize money was an extra incentive to turn up. This well researched account tracks the history of the Speed Weeks with its roller-coaster ride throughout its 13 years existence.

Auf dem Solitude-Ring begann seine Leidenschaft für den Motorsport. Bereits in den Jahren 1961 und 1963 fuhr Thomas Mehne mit seinen Eltern zu den Solitude-Rennen nach Stuttgart. Ab 1968 bereiste er dann selbst viele der legendären Rennstrecken in ganz Europa.
Der Solitude-Ring
Die Autorennen auf der Solitude haben eine lange Tradition. Der Solitude-Ring war Austragungsort von Rennen der Formeln 1, 2, 3, Junior und Vau. Sowie von Rennen mit Sportwagen, Grand Tourisme und Tourenwagen.

Chris Amon hat die einleitenden Worte geschrieben. Der Neuseeländer war bei drei Solitude-Rennen mit dabei und gewann das letzte Formel 2-Rennen im Jahre 1965. Der Text RACING AT SOLITUDE ist eine chronologische Dokumentation der Autorennen in der letzten Epoche der Solitude-Rennen mit deutschen, englischen, französischen und italienischen Text.
Die Bilder
Der Bildband gibt einen Überblick über Rennfahrer und Rennwagen der 1950er und 60er Jahre. Ziel des Buchprojekts war es, alle Fahrzeuge aus allen Kategorien, die an den Solitude-Rennen teilgenommen haben, zu dokumentieren. Dies ist nahezu gelungen. Erwähnenswert ist, dass neben den bekannten Rennwagen auch solche mit dabei waren, die nur selten, in manchen Ländern gar nicht, in Erscheinung traten. Die meisten Bilder in diesem Buch waren bislang unveröffentlicht.

Targa Florio 1953 - 1973

Die Targa Florio hat einen festen Platz in der „Hall of Fame“ des Motorsports. Die Herausforderung, mit den schnellsten Sportwagen jener Tage über die schmalen Bergstraßen Siziliens zu fahren, ist absolut einzigartig und macht die Targa Florio zu einem der größten Autorennen der Welt.

Die „Targa“ wurde 1906 gegründet und gehörte 1955 erstmals der Sportwagen-Weltmeisterschaft an.
